Gary Stern was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1987. He has practiced family law exclusively since his call to the bar, with a focus on negotiating and drafting domestic contracts, including marriage contracts, cohabitations agreements and separation agreements. His main emphasis is to ease the stress of the process using a hands-on approach.
Mr. Stern has significant training in Alternative Dispute Resolution processes, including successfully obtaining the following certificates in mediation, arbitration and domestic violence training: (a) Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Level 1, Dispute Resolution Overview, University of Waterloo, Conrad Grable, University College; (b) Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Level 2, Intensive Mediation Skills Clinic, University of Waterloo, Conrad Grable, University College; and (c) Certificate from the ADR Institute of Ontario Inc. in Alternative Dispute Resolution: Mediation and Negotiation Skills; (d) Certificate from the Mediation Centre and Riverdale Mediation in Domestic Violence Mediation/Arbitration; (e) Certificate for Family Law Arbitration, University of Waterloo, Conrad Grable, University College. He also completed the Mediation/Arbitration Course taught by Lorne Wolfson and Barbara Landau and has completed the requisite updates since.
Mr. Stern acted as Dispute Resolution Officer in the Oshawa Family Court since 2011.
He has taught the Bar Admission Course, Family Law Section, in the past, and has presented at a continuing education program provided to family lawyers. During the initial part of Mr. Stern’s career, he was a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer.
Mr. Stern is a member of the Toronto, York and Durham Collaborative Association. He attends various Continuing Legal Education programs throughout the year.
